Principal's Newsletter for January 2018

January 2018

Dear Holy Angels Catholic School Families,

Happy, healthy New Year to you! I hope that God blesses you and your families with increased faith, love, and joy in 2018.  May you and your home be filled with peace.  January 2nd is our first day of school in the new year.  On January 6th, we will officially end our celebration of the Christmas season. It is the Feast of the Epiphany or “Little Christmas” as it is sometimes called. This is the day the church recognizes the Magi’s arrival at the stable with gifts for the Newborn King.  Happy Little Christmas, everyone!

When school re-opens on January 2nd, we will be well into Trimester 2. There are many positive, peaceful, and productive things happening in school every day.  To date, we have held our weekly Detention only three times. We cancelled Detention ten Tuesdays because our students are cooperating, being kind, solving conflicts peacefully, and following their student creed. That is an amazing statistic, please share the good news and thank your child for making so many good choices throughout the day. Children in these varying developmental stages do not always recognize that their accomplishments relate directly to their attitude and their effort. Your child’s success is comparable to the amount of effort and positivity displayed when doing academic work.  Here’s to a positive and productive 2018!

Please make your “snow day” back-up plan now, just in case. I hear we are in for a lot of snow! We follow the “Baltimore County Public Schools” announcement that will be made on WBAL Ch. 11 and on WBAL 1090 radio.  If an emergency closes just our building (no electricity, no heat, water outage, etc.) then the closing of Holy Angels Catholic School will be announced on WBAL, by email to you, on our website, and on our Facebook page.  Listen every morning regardless of the weather just in case and be ready to implement your plan in case we have to be closed unexpectedly. Please do NOT call school to ask if we’re closing early. Mrs. Martin cannot field the calls and messages clog her message service. Follow the announcement on the news.

May you experience the joy of God’s beautiful winter, and may He keep you safe.

In peace,

M. Kathleen Filippelli

“Your child’s success or lack of success in sports does not indicate what kind of a parent you are. But having an athlete who is coachable, respectful, a great teammate, mentally tough, resilient in defeat, and tries his/her best IS a direct reflection of your parenting.”

Let the kids play, the coaches coach, and the ref call the game.

Claire’s Gourmet Fundraiser Was a Success!

Thank you, parents and teachers, for working hard to support our second of three fundraisers this year.  Mrs. Martin and her volunteers did an amazing job working all day to serve you. Our two $200 tuition payment winners will have their tuition accounts in FACTS credited with the top-seller prize in January.  Congratulations, Ca’liyah Harrison and Autumn Fleary!
