Catholic School Students, Families Choose Name for New Catholic Elementary School
April 20, 2010

In an online survey conducted last week, students at five area Catholic schools were asked to name the newly created Catholic elementary school that will open its doors in time for the 2010-11 school year. The name receiving the largest vote total was: Holy Angels Catholic School.

Holy Angels, to be initially located in the Seton Keough High School, is expected to attract students from Ascension School, St. Bernardine Catholic School, Father Charles Hall Catholic Elementary School, St. Rose of Lima School, and St. William of York School.

Ms. Kathleen Filippelli, current principal at Father Charles Hall Catholic Elementary School, was named the principal of Holy Angels Catholic School last month.

“We are delighted to have this much anticipated name for our new school. Bravo to the Catholic school parents, students, and teachers who allowed the angels to guide them,” Ms. Filippelli said. “Holy Angels Catholic School will be a positive and happy learning community."

Forty-two percent of voters chose the name from among a list of five. Participants in the survey were also allowed to write in a name.

The Archdiocese announced on March 4 that a new school building will be constructed in the city for the newly-named school if enrollment and funding levels are sufficient to do so. It would be the first new Catholic school constructed in Baltimore City in more than 60 years.
