August/September 2011 Newsletter

Dear Holy Angels Catholic School Parents,

Welcome to a new school year!  I am very excited to partner with you for a successful and fun year together.  The promise that awaits us is endless; there are no limits to the hard work, fun, laughter, and successes that we will experience with your child.  We are very serious about academic skill development, but we are also interested in making learning interesting and fun. We can help your child grow academically and spiritually, and we expect that we will work together to achieve that goal.
Here are some very important tips to help you help start off the year on a positive note:

  1. Know your child’s teacher. Communicate often.
  2. Organize things well at night so that the morning is not rushed and unpleasant.
  3. Inspect your child’s bookbag and pockets every morning and every night.
  4. Read and initial your child’s homework sheet/Good News Assignment Book daily.
  5. Read and sign your child’s purple Wednesday folder.
  6. Provide your child with the recommended amount of sleep and nutrition.
  7. Pray every morning with your child for a successful school day.
  8. Make sure that your child is present and on time for an 8:20-3:20 school day.

If you have any questions about your child’s progress, email your child’s teacher. You may also call the school office to make an appointment.  We will be happy to help you in any way that we can.  May God bless you for your sacrifice, our students for their academic success, and our faculty and staff for their dedication to the ministry of Catholic education.  I hope that this year is a great experience for all of us!
Thank you for choosing Holy Angels Catholic School.

Respectfully,

M. Kathleen Filippelli
Principal

Parent Packet

The papers in the Parent Packet are given on the first day of school at our Parent Orientation Meeting. These papers are extremely important.  I kindly ask that you make time on the evening of August 29th to carefully and completely red and sign each paper, following the directions for each one. Your child should bring all of the papers with signatures back to school on Tuesday, August 30th.

Back To School Night for Parents
We will greet you at 6:30pm on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th for our Back to School Night for parents. The session begins promptly at 6:30, and it will end at approximately 8:00. The purpose of this meeting is to let you know exactly what your child’s teacher has planned for the year, the grading system that will be used, and the procedures of the classroom where your child will work a pray for the next ten months. Please make every effort to be here for this important parent and teacher meeting.

STAND Screening for all Volunteers
Throughout the school year, you may want to visit your child’s classroom, chaperone a trip, help out in the cafeteria, or help at an event. All volunteers must be pre-screened for safety prior to being present with children. The video is available on-line at www.hacschool.org.  If you were screened at another location, please submit your STAND card to the school office.  We will copy it and add you to our volunteer list. Please do not ask to be present with children unless you have your STAND card.

Medical Services for Our Students

Two medical organizations will offer free services to our students this year. The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing will provide free physicals beginning on Thursday, September 22nd for students with completed permission forms.  The physicals will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis, and the children without medical insurance will be scheduled first.  The nurses will meet four students every Thursday from September through December 1st.  St. Joseph Medical Center will provide vision and hearing screening for our students with signed permission forms on Friday, November 11th.   We are very grateful for these two community partnerships.
